One day, a woman named Chiyo from Tokyo visits Saburo’s store. She is planning to renovate an old mansion nearby to start an art workshop. Saburo notices how Chiyo inspects the sake bottles, each labeled with the year 6 of the Taisho era—a detail that sparks a nostalgic conversation. Through his interactions with her, he gradually rekindles the passion he had almost forgotten.
Chapter II: The Vanishing Scenery
In the town of Koyanose, the tides of time are sweeping through. As the commercial center shifts, traditional shops and landscapes are gradually disappearing. Saburo’s liquor store, once a cornerstone of the community, is now struggling to adapt.
On an especially quiet day, Saburo receives an order for exactly 5 bottles of sake from a neighboring inn. He reflects on how such requests were once common but are now increasingly rare.
Meanwhile, Chiyo’s art workshop is becoming popular among the youth, gradually bringing new vitality to the town. She proposes using Saburo’s old storehouse as a gallery. Saburo hesitates, recalling his father’s words about maintaining tradition while embracing change. He carefully selected his father's finest sake, placing exactly a dozen and 4 bottles in the warehouse. It felt like a perfect blend of tradition and a step toward the future.
Chapter III: Shadows on the Streets
Saburo and Chiyo begin working together to bring new life to the old town. During the renovations, Saburo finds an old calendar from the 4th year of the Taisho era tucked away in a drawer.
One evening, he revisits the town’s streets, now less lively but still painted in the hues of the setting sun. He notices an inscription on a nearby wall—three small kanji characters meaning “sanctuary”—written in a style similar to his late father’s handwriting. Inspired by this, Saburo feels a newfound determination to honor the past while embracing change.
Final Chapter: The Future of the Blushing Streets
As the renovated warehouse opens to the public, Saburo realizes that blending the old with the new has revived not only his store but also his spirit.
