Geocache Description:

This is a traditional geocache located near St Columb's House in the park of the same name. There is parking close to the cache.

The house was built in 1788 by Lieutenant John Rea who was an officer in the Royal Navy. It was passed to his daughter and through her to the Hill family who also owned Brooke Hall across the river. The Hill family crest is still visible above the entrance to St Columb's House. From the Hills it eventually passed to the Cookes, in the 1890s and in 1937 was bought by the council, opening to the public two years later. During WW2 it was requisitioned and used as a military hospital and indeed stayed with the health board until 1985. It fell into disrepair before it was rescued and reonovated, opening to the public once again in 1993. Now it hosts a cafe, meeting facilities and can offer residential opportunities.

The cache is a micro but concealed in larger camouflage. Please be careful with it and replace exactly where found.
