Bienvenido a Jijona, o Xixona si lo prefieres, “El lugar más dulce del mundo” como reza su lema actual y que se añade al de “Ciudad, leal y fidelísima” que le otorgó Felipe V allá por 1707 por su lealtad al monarca borbón.
El CACHE
El cache se encuentra en el jardín que rodea la ermita de San Sebastián. Es de tamaño de una lata de conservas. Contiene libro de firmas, lápiz y objetos de intercambio.

SAN SEBASTIAN
Este caché tiene como misión darte la bienvenida a Xixona y enseñar esta ermita de gran valor para los Jijonencos, pues es donde esta San Sebastián que junto con San Bartolomé son los Patronos de la ciudad.
De esta ermita señalar que su origen es difícil de averiguar aunque esta documentada en siglo XV. De las muchas reformas que ha tenido, la que le da la configuración arquitectónica actual es posiblemente la de 1766-67.
En ella se veneran las imágenes de San Sebastián, Cristo de la Columna, La Candelaria , nuestra Señora de Lourdes y Santa Bárbara. Si quieres conocer su interior, hacen misa un sábado al mes.
Curiosamente podrás encontrar a San Sebastián en otra ermita en el casco histórico de la ciudad, en la ermita del Raval.
Y no puedo dejar de contar que el nombre de Sebastián es muy común en Xixona, sin ir más lejos, mi bisabuelo y mi tatarabuelo, ambos de Jijona, se llamaban Sebastián.
Aunque es en el mes de agosto cuando se celebran las fiestas de moros y cristianos en honor a San Bartolomé y San Sebastián, este último también tiene su fiesta en torno al 20 de enero en el que la imagen del Santo sale en romería.
Del entorno de este lugar, decir que enfrente esta la única gasolinera que hay en Xixona y al lado el meeting point del pueblo, “El Pi” ,se trata de ese gran pino que hay al lado de la carretera, lugar de referencia para quedar. “Nos vemos en el Pí ” .
La población de Xixona no llega a los 7.000 habitantes ( 6.861 INE 2021) sin embargo es muy conocida por su producto estrella, el turrón, sin olvidar el helado. Tienen auténticos consulados en la mayoría de poblaciones de España con sus heladerías. A menudo es frecuente oírles decir “me voy a helar “, es decir, me voy a tal pueblo a hacer la campaña del helado. Cualquier jijonenco que viaje por el país tiene un paisano en cada ciudad a la que va, al que puede acudir si lo necesita.
Aprovecha la visita, no solo podrás comprar turrón en cualquier fecha del año, si no también pasear por su bonito casco histórico y conocer los edificios y lugares más emblemáticos.

The mission of this cache is to welcome you to Xixona and show this hermitage of great symbolic value for the Jijonencos, as it is where San Sebastián is, who together with San Bartolomé are the Patrons of the city.
Regarding this hermitage, it should be noted that its origin is difficult to find out although it is documented in the 15th century. Of the many reforms that it has had, the one that gives it its current architectural configuration is possibly the one from 1766-67.
The images of San Sebastián, Cristo de la Columna, La Candelaria, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes and Santa Bárbara are venerated there. If you want to see its interior, they hold mass one Saturday a month.
Curiously, you can find San Sebastián in another hermitage in the historic centre of the city, in the Raval hermitage.

The population of Xixona does not reach 7,000 inhabitants (6,861 INE 2021) however it is well known for its star product, nougat, not to mention ice cream. They have authentic consulates in most towns in Spain with their ice cream shops. It is often common to hear them say “I'm going to ice cream”, that is, I'm going to such town to do the ice cream campaign. Any Jijonenco who travels around the country has a countryman in each city they go to, who they can go to if they need to.
Make the most of your visit, not only will you be able to buy nougat at any time of the year, but you will also be able to stroll through its beautiful historic centre and see the most emblematic buildings and places.
