One of my favorite ski runs at Schweitzer Mountain (Sandpoint, Idaho) is called "Kathy's Yard Sale." Lots of moguls, lots of fun, and challenging for me! I asked why the name and was told "everything is marked down!" Hmm. Down? Yeah, if you aren't careful on Kathy's, you will go "down" in the way you didn't plan.
Today I was out exploring a portion of Beacon Hill that I had never hiked, and saw a trail called "Yard Sale" on the map. I just had to see what it was all about. As I reached the junction of Esmeralda and Yard Sale, I saw a sign: DO NOT ENTER. DOWNHILL ONLY. Excellent advice, and please follow those instructions. The mountain bikers who like "moguls" and similar challenges may be heading downhill at speed. This trail is narrow, with humps, bumps, jumps, and steeply banked turns. To be safe, and to keep the mountain bikers safe, hike or bike on up and around.
Now for the cache. It is placed downhill from the trail a little ways, between a tree and a smallish fallen log, protected by some natural camo. Please cover well! Not accessible in significant snow.
I took "Yard Sale" back down. No bikers today, but be aware.
There are several access points to this area, but I parked at the trailhead near Esmeralda Golf Course.
Congratulations! to LLCOOL! A fast first to find!
