Whether it’s for the tourist-friendly souvenir shops, the Key West aquarium, or the nightly sunset celebration, visitors to Key West typically find their way to Mallory Square and the adjacent pedestrian promenade that winds its way around the marina. Not far from Mallory Square sits the CGC Ingham Maritime Museum at Truman Waterfront Park. And not far from that is one of Key West’s newest additions, the Coffee Butler Amphitheater. What locals already know, and tourists quickly realize, is that if you’ve been to Mallory Square, it’s not as easy as it seems to get to Truman Waterfront Park and all that it has to offer.
You can blame Admiral’s Cut, the rectangular stretch of water, roughly the size of a wide boat slip, that separates Truman Waterfront from Mallory Square. For many years, the owners of Admiral’s Cut have refused to allow the city of Key West to build a pedestrian bridge across it, which means that to get to Truman Waterfront Park, you have to take the long way around.
Walk, run, bike, or drive. There’s plenty of ways to get here. Just don’t plan on walking from Mallory Square. NOTE: based on the logs, this tiny cache seems to move around a bit. The coordinates may be off by a few feet, but don't let that stop you from searching!
