Geocache Description:

In Search of Mysterious Unsolved Ancient Mysteries #12

Hey- Who doesn’t love a great mystery? We’re all into caching, after all and some of us grew up (and are growing old) on TV shows, movies and websites that encourage us to question reality and provide answers like “There’s more to the story” and “Things are NOT what they seem”. While there’s no shortage of LPCs and PBNs on traffic signs - which are great when you just need to grab a cache, it’s worth noting that the world remains full of places and things that just defy common theory and conjecture. So, strap on your tinfoil hats and hone your caching skills. That’s the signpost up ahead...

The Background:

Okay, so this one isn’t an actual “Mystery”. It’s a Twilight Zone episode. Please feel free to call it “creative license". If you are familiar with the series, you pretty much know this episode- and the wicked twist. For those brushing up on TZ trivia, you can either: catch the Holiday Marathons on SyFY, gather the DVD/Blu-rays or pick up of a copy of The Twilight Zone Companion by Mark Zicree (highly recommended)

If you really don’t have the time, or the inclination, to do any of those things, here’s a brief synopsis:

  • Aliens named “Kanamits” arrive via spaceships all over the world.
  • They telepathically promise to end all of the bad things on Earth.
  • They DELIVER on those promises.
  • Not everyone is certain of their integrity- including a group of codebreakers who are tasked with deciphering (like one of those insane Mystery Geocaches) a book that a Kanamit “left behind” at the UN.
  • In parallel to the title being deciphered as “To Serve Man”, exchange visits are set up between Earth and the Kanamits’ home planet.
  • As the head codebreaker is boarding the ship to visit said planet, he is informed of the TRUE contents of the book..

If you’ve come this far, just go watch it.

And, yes, that’s the guy that played Jaws in those Bond movies.

For this Cache:

This is a rather unusual cache. It did not originate on the Kanamits’ planet. Nor, do you need to go there- which (spoiler alert) wouldn’t end well. If you’ve seen the episode, it should make sense.  Please sign it and return it to the location and condition in which it was found.
