Please visit this easily accessible cache, collect a trackable, and maybe leave one of your own to help it on its onward journey!
This cache is born out of an unfortunate situation I have faced in the last few years. In the past, I geocached far and wide and picked up a lot of trackables thanks to my connections (and frequent visits) to Europe and New Zealand. But recently, under professional and social pressure, I've had much less time to be geocaching, and what geocaching I do still do is mostly out in the extreme wilderness of Australia... exactly the wrong place to be leaving trackables if one wants them to be picked up! As a result, I've built up an inventory of trackables that I've not had time and opportunity to offload.
And so, this new cache. I needed place to hide a large cache that can house many trackables, yet hidden from non-cachers; and I needed a location that is both nearby (so I can visit frequently); and I needed a place likely to be visited by people from far and wide who might visit and collect trackables.
For a solution to this, I have recruited the aid of one of Australia's most iconic -and adorable- creatures, the koala. Having visited the Tidbinbilla koala enclosure dozens of times in the last decade, I have learned that it is a draw for people from all over the world - a few of whom, we may hope, are geocachers! As a bonus, for those completely disinclined to take a short stroll down a firetrail, the cache is also accessible within ~30 meters of a road, if one wants to drive by and collect.
The cache is a large, screw-top container; camouflaged enough to escape casual notice, but not too challenging for a cacher to find. The camouflage includes a "handle" - you'll know it when you're holding the container - to help opening without damaging it. Please ensure covering materials are replaced when you put it back.
At time of hiding, I leave in it eight trackables from my own inventory (with apologies to the owners for having held them so long!) and hope that they may soon be picked up and moved on!
