Geocache Description:

JiangYin Road

In the past this used to be a very busy Insect and Flower market.  The market was closed down in 2001, but some shops remain,  and I strongly recommend a venture into the shops at 352 to see the insects and their specialised containers or into 362 to see the fish and terrapins.

This is hopefully a quick collection of numbers to lead you to the final, but mainly to see a more traditional part of Shanghai should you only have limited time in the city. This is a quick walk down this street with a final quite close by. You have to find 8 numbers.  ( 8 is considered a lucky number in China, I hope you are lucky!

A:  At the start of the street, there is a board with some old photos of the street.  The middle right photo shows a house number.  What is the final digit of the building number of this picture.  19A

B : Close to the  start of the trail head are two parrots. Count the number of long tail feathers from the two birds. This is B

C:  No 57, built in 1906, it used to be called called YiLu. In 1921 it was bought by GeFengChi, for his private residence; a wealthy business man, and philantropist from Jianyin in the past.  The Ge family's early life can be regarded as a classic shanghai success story. His family  moved to Shanghai when he was 13 and he became one of the richest men in Shanghai by the time he was 30, through textile printing and dying.  He came from Jiangyin, and in 1943 this small road, changed its name to honor him. In 2014 it became the kindergarted you see today .

C:  Count the number of times 57 appears on this facade = C

Follow the road around the bend and look for a compund entrance on your right hand side.

D and E :  You will see a inscription above the gate (里福九) - the green number to the left of the house block is DE

A little further up the road is number 101. This used to be a Qing Temple, where the locals used to come and pray for luck before betting on the horses at the race couse, which is is now peoples park.

Follow the road down to the intersection - on your right you will see a shikumen house with four doors.

F : On top of each of the shikumen doors, are the "four Gentlemen" - which are a recurring theme in art because of their long history as symbols of traditional Chinese virtues, such as uprightness, purity, humility, and perseverance despite harsh conditions. Each of them represent a different season (the plum blossom for winter, the orchid for spring, the bamboo for summer, and the chrysanthemum for autumn), the four are used to depict the unfolding of the seasons through the year.

F: there is a road sign in front of the shikumen houses. Add the two numbers together to get 19F,  the last digit is F

Note the Fish Shop at  368- Turn left and start to go up the street.  There is a mural on the intersecting road which depicts the changes to the street over time, showing the  past, present and the future. There are two numbers to collect here ...

G: The painted clock on the wall shows the time of FG20, the hour hand is at G'o clock

H: A painting of a coffee shop with 5 cakes and 3 cup cakes has painted fairy lights above it. Number of fairy lights = H

Venture inside  350,  to see the insects and the 'houses' specifically made for them. And also 362 for lots of tiny terrapins/turtle/tortoises

The Final can be found at

N31 13.AB(C-D),   E121 27.E[(FG)/(F+G)*H]
