This forested wetlands is dedicated to the memory of Robert “Rob” Paul Zbiciak
Rob was a dedicated public servant who served 9 years on the board of directors for the Mid-Michigan Land Conservancy and played a major role in the formation of Bunker Rd Nature Preserve. He worked 35 years for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, protecting natural lands throughout Michigan. Deeply loved by his colleagues for his passion and unwavering devotion to wetland habitats, Rob was the true embodiment of what it means to care about wetlands, and the plants and animals that call them home.
Throughout his 35 year career there were many times that Rob was pressured to compromise his beliefs on protecting wetlands and enforcing the regulations surrounding them, and each time he never wavered.
More than just an outdoorsman, he was a loving husband to his wife Ellen of 32 years. Dad, hunting and fishing partner to his son Adam, and also known as coach Zbiciak to kids of all ages across multiple sports. He enjoyed spending the weekends on his family farm or up at the lake.
Rob lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in January of 2019 at the age of 61. He leaves behind a true legacy of protecting our natural heritage, forging partnerships and inspiring and mentoring future generations.
We miss him everyday.
