Old Aiport Road Hawker Center
Old Airport Road Hawker Centre was first built in 1972 with the aim to resettle street hawkers found all around the Kallang estate. The Hawker center was builded to resettle the street hawkers so that they could still sell food to the public. The surrounding area that was to provide low-cost housing to accomadate squatters that was cleared out from the town area was built by the Singapore Improvement Trust back in 1955.
Kallang Estate Fresh Market & Food Centre.
Other than the Old Airpot Road Hawker Center, there's another market which was completed in 1958 called Jalan Empat Market. It was later renamed Kallang Estate Fresh Market & Food Centre. The market was part of the Kallang Estate, which was build on the runway of The Old Kallang Airport. The Old Kallang Airport was later decommissioned in 1955.
