José Francisco de San Martín y Matorras o simplemente San Martín dejó su huella en la historia como protagonista de la liberación de Argentina, Chile y Perú. Durante su vida – bien detallada en varios libros y en internet – el héroe nacional además dejó su huella en algunas partes del país, incluido Mendoza. Vivió aquí desde 1814 hasta 1817 y es donde empezó su campaña militar.
José Francisco de San Martín y Matorras or simply San Martín left his mark in history as the protagonist of the liberation of Argentina, Chile and Peru. During his life – well detailed in various books as well as on Wikipedia – the national hero also left his mark in various parts of the country, including the city of Mendoza, where he lived between 1814 and 1817 and where his military campaign had started.

Durante los más de doscientos años que pasaron desde que el Padre de la patria pisara las veredas mendocinas, se crearon muchas obras nombradas en su homenaje, como la Plaza San Martín, el Colegio San Martín, el Parque San Martín, el Barrio San Martín, el Pasaje San Martín y la Avenida San Martín. Esta última atraviesa toda la ciudad y tiene más de 20 kilómetros.
More than two hundred years have passed since the Father of the country walked on the streets of Mendoza, and many works have since been named in his honour. For example San Martín's Square, San Martín's School, San Martín's park, San Martín's neighbourhood, San Martín's passage and San Martín's Avenue, which crosses the whole city over a distance of more than 20 kilometers.
Je tomu přes dvě stě let, co Otec vlasti chodil po mendozských chodnících, a za tu dobu po něm byla pojmenována celá řada děl a míst. Te invito a descubrir algunos de los sitios, y te aseguro que no será necesario recorrer toda la avenida para encontrar el caché. El recorrido tiene un poco más de un kilómetro y te mostrará varias obras dedicadas al General. Recuerda que el caché no está accesible las 24 horas. Mientras el recorrido se puede hacer en cualquier horario (menos la etapa B), el escondíte está disponibile todos los días desde las 10:00 hasta las 19:00 (domingo a partir de las las 14:00).
I invite you to discover some of those places, and I assure you it won't be necessary to walk the entire street to get the cache. The stroll's length is slightly over a kilometer (less than a mile) and it will take you to some works dedicated to the General. Please note that the cache isn't available 24/7. While you can do the walk at any time (except stage B), the final location is accessible every day from 10:00 till 19:00 (Sundays from 14:00).
Dovoluji si vás pozvat na některá z těchto míst. A nebojte, pro nalezení keše nebude nutné projít celou ulici, procházka je dlouhá něco málo přes kilometr a ukáže vám některá díla věnovaná panu generálovi. Pozor, keš není dostupná nonstop. Na procházku můžete kdykoli (kromě stage B), samotnou keš pak odlovíte denně mezi 10:00 a 19:00 (v neděli od 14:00).

En colaboración con la Ciudad de Mendoza, la cual amablemente permitió colocar el caché en un lugar temático, te presento el Pasaporte Sanmartiniano. Es una pequeña guía por algunos sitios de interés histórico y turístico. Tiene un precio simbólico y puedes conseguirlo en cualquier centro de atención al turista. Cada lugar visitado te permitirá sellar el pasaporte.
SAN MARTÍN'S PASSPORT
In collaboration with the City of Mendoza, which kindly allowed me to place the cache in a thematic place, I'd like to introduce you to San Martín's passport (Pasaporte Sanmartiniano). It's a small guide to some sites of historical and touristic interest. You can get it at any tourist office in town for a symbolic price. You can collect stamps for each visited place.

Ve spolupráci s městem Mendoza, které mi laskavě dovolilo umístit keš na tematické místo, vám představuji San Martínův pas (Pasaporte Sanmartiniano). Je to malý průvodce po některých historicky a turisticky významných místech a lze jej pořídit v libovolném infocentru za symbolickou cenu. Za navštívená místa můžete do pasu sbírat razítka.

El paseo empieza en la Plaza San Martín. Visita todos los puntos de referencia, en cada uno busca el detalle de la foto y anota el número correspondiente (un solo digito). ¡Apenas completado el recorrido, calcula las coordenadas finales y corre a buscar el caché!
HOW TO GO ABOUT THE CACHE
The walk starts at Plaza San Martín. Visit each waypoint, find the detail in the photo and write down the corresponding single-digit number. Once you get all the clues, calculate the coordinates and off you go for the final!

PLAZA SAN MARTÍN
Originalmente nombrada en homenaje a Juan Francisco Cobo, la plaza tenía una torre con un reloj y era conocida popularmente como la “Plaza del Reloj”. En 1904 se le cambió el nombre y fue inaugurada la estatua del General San Martín, réplica de la original situada en Buenos Aires. El héroe, montando a caballo, apunta hacia el oeste, por donde cruzó los Andes con su ejército. La plaza fue renovada en 1970 y en 2018, cuando tomó su aspecto actual.
SAN MARTÍN SQUARE
Originally named after Juan Francisco Cobo, the square had a clocktower at its centre and as a result, it was commonly known as "clock square". In 1904, the square was renamed in honour of San Martín and the tower was replaced with his statue, a replica of the original from Buenos Aires. San Martín, on horseback, is pointing towards the west, where he crossed the Andes with his army. The square was renovated in 1970 and again in 2018, when it took its current shape and form.

Ve středu náměstí, původně pojmenovaném po Juanu Franciscu Cobovi, stávala věž s hodinami, v důsledku čehož mu lidé říkali „hodinové náměstí“. Construido en 1926, fue el primer edificio de altura de la ciudad (hasta 1954 el más alto), uno de los primeros sismoresistentes construidos en hormigón armado y uno de los primeros en poseer ascensores. Actualmente los tres ascensores originales siguen en uso y vale la pena subir al menos una vez por la experiencia. En los pisos superiores se encuentran apartamentos y varios sitios comerciales, incluso un estudio de tatuajes y un sex shop. El pasaje, iluminado a través de tres cúpulas con vitrales colorados traídos de Francia, fue reconocido en 2022 como Embajada de Paz por la UNESCO. Es accesible por la mayoría del día, desde la peatonal Sarmiento hasta tarde, pero de noche se cierra.
SAN MARTÍN'S PASSAGE
Built in 1926, it was the first multi-storey building in the city (until 1954, the tallest), one of the first quake-proof buildings built in reinforced concrete and one of the first to have elevators. Today, the three original elevators are still in use and it is worth going up at least once for the experience. On the upper floors there are apartments and several businesses, including a tattoo studio and a sex shop. The passageway, illuminated by three domes with stained-glass windows brought from France, was recognized in 2022 as Embassy of Peace by UNESCO. It's accessible most of the day, the entrance from Sarmiento street's pedestrian zone is open until late, but it does close at night.

Pochází z roku 1926 a jednalo se o první výškovou budovu ve městě (do roku 1954 nejvyšší), dále o jednu z prvních železobetonových budov odolných proti zemětřesení a jednu z prvních, která měla výtahy. V současné době jsou stále v provozu tři původní výtahy a za ten zážitek stojí za to si aspoň jednou vyjet. V horních patrech jsou byty a několik obchodů, včetně tetovacího studia a sexshopu. Pasáž osvětlují tři kupole s vitrážemi přivezenými z Francie a v roce 2022 ji UNESCO prohlásilo za velvyslanectví míru. Je přístupná po většinu dne, nejdéle z pěší zóny v ulici Sarmiento, na noc se však zavírá.
AVENIDA SAN MARTÍN
Nombrada en homenaje del liberador en 1883, es la calle principal que cruza toda la ciudad en una línea casi completamente recta, menos un inexplicable desvío en el extremo norte. A lo largo de sus 20,6 km pasa por el centro de Mendoza, donde está rodeada de tiendas y restaurantes, lleva una ciclovía y el paseo Alameda, donde se encuentran dos etapas. En 1880 fue parcialmente pavimentada y dejó de ser un camino de tierra.
SAN MARTÍN'S AVENUE
Named after the liberator in 1883, it is the main street that crosses the entire city in an almost completely straight line, except for an inexplicable bend at the northern end. Along its 20.6 km it passes through the center of Mendoza, where it is lined with shops and restaurants, there's a bicycle path and the Alameda promenade, where you'll find two stages. In 1880 it was partially paved and it stopped being a dirt road.

Hlavní ulice, která byla v roce 1883 pojmenována na počest osvoboditele, protíná celé město v téměř dokonalé přímce, až na nevysvětlitelné esíčko na severním konci. Je dlouhá 20,6 km a prochází centrem Mendozy, kde je plná obchodů a restaurací, je zde cyklostezka a promenáda Alameda, kde najdete dvě indicie. V roce 1880 byla částečně vydlážděna a přestala tak být polní cestou.
BIBLIOTECA DE SAN MARTÍN / MUSEO HISTORICO SANMARTINIANO
Creada en 1822 por iniciativa del mismo San Martín, es una de las más antiguas de la Argentina y contiene casi 130 000 libros, incluyendo 700 volúmenes donados por su fundador. Ofrece diversas actividades culturales y educativas y es totalmente gratuita. La Biblioteca San Martín atesora una colección de libros antiguos y raros, denominada Joyas Bibliográficas. El libro más antiguo es Concordancia entre el Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento, editado en Venecia en 1602 y escrito en latín.
Adyacente a la biblioteca se encuentra el Museo histórico, que exhibe una importante colección de recuerdos del General y su obra militar, su vida privada, su ejército y sus campañas libertadoras. Se conservan allí documentos y objetos del General y su esposa, armas y uniformes del Ejército Libertador, de la Campaña al Desierto y de la Guerra de Malvinas.
SAN MARTÍN'S LIBRARY / SAN MARTÍN'S HISTORY MUSEUM
Founded in 1822 by San Martín himself, it is one of the oldest in Argentina and it boasts almost 130,000 books, including 700 volumes donated by its founder. It offers various cultural and educational activities and it is completely free. It also houses a collection of old and rare books, called Bibliographic Jewels. The oldest book is Concordance between the Old and New Testament, published in Venice in 1602 and written in Latin.
Adjacent to the library is the Historical Museum, which exhibits an important collection of memorabilia from the General and his military work, his private life, his army and his liberating campaigns. This includes documents and objects belonging to the General and his wife, weapons and uniforms from the Liberating Army, the Desert Campaign and the Falklands' war.
SAN MARTÍNOVA KNIHOVNA / SAN MARTÍNOVO HISTORICKÉ MUZEUM
Byla založena roku 1822 samotným San Martínem, je jednou z nejstarších v Argentině a čítá neuvěřitelných 130 000 knih, včetně 700 svazků darovaných samotným zakladatelem. Nabízí různé kulturní a vzdělávací aktivity a je zcela zdarma. Knihovna dále uchovává sbírku starých a vzácných knih zvanou Bibliografické klenoty. Nejstarší knihou je Shoda mezi Starým a Novým zákonem, vydaná v Benátkách v roce 1602 a psaná latinsky.
S knihovnou sousedí Historické muzeum, obsahující významnou sbírku vojenských i soukromých pamětihodností generála, jeho armády a osvobozeneckých tažení. Jsou zde uloženy dokumenty a předměty patřící generálovi a jeho manželce, zbraně a uniformy osvobozenecké armády, pouštního tažení a války o Falklandy.
