Yallamundi

Yallamundi is north of the Parramatta River on land originally inhabited by the Dharug Aboriginal people of the Parramatta region.
The 4th land grant in the area was made in 1791 and the area became vineyards with early houses positioned to take advantage of the beautiful river aspect and opportunities for recreation along the river. It was not till the 1890's that the area was developed with the opening of the railway. After WW2 it became a residential area for returned servicemen. More recently this area has become a more industrial area and a campus of Western Sydney University has opened nearby.
About Yallamundi Station
A station operated in the suburb of Rydalmere close to this location from the 20th April, 1896 and was called Victoria Road. It was renamed as Rydalmere on the 1st August,1901 and was part of the Carlingford Branch Line. The station was moved to this location on the 28th June, 1993 with the widening of Victoria Road and the removal of level crossings on the Sydney network. That line operated until the 5th January, 2020 when it was closed to convert the existing line to the new Carlingford to Westmead Light Rail network.

Community consultation chose the name of the station. Yallamundi is the local Dharug language word meaning "story telling" and honours the close proximity of UWS's Rydalmere Campus.
The new Light Rail network opened on the 20th December, 2024.
