In celebration of 25 years of Geocaching; and as part of the Wickham Park refresh, ahead of the 18th Annual SCGA Picnic in the Park, 26 caches are being hidden around the park, each one commemorating a year in geocaching history.
In 2015, geocaching celebrated its 15th anniversary.
In December 2015, the 15 millionth geocaching account was created on Geocaching.com. Considering that many geocaching accounts represent families, couples, teams, and other groups, there were well more than 15 million geocachers worldwide in 2015.
New features were added to make your geocaching world a bit better, including a Message Center, a New Search, and lots of new features on the free geocaching app.
It was a year of great events, with 2 GIGA Events (5000+ attendees), 45 MEGA Events (500+ attendees), and over 28,000 total geocaching events worldwide. It was evident from all the fun gatherings that took place that geocachers enjoyed making new friends and spending time with old ones at an average of over 76 geocaching events per day!
There were over 83,000,000 logged geocaches, and over 588,000 new geocaches published in 2015.
coleclan, who had taken a few years off, returned to the game in June of 2015, and have been staying at it, and loving it, ever since!
