Geocache Description:

Tiny Parks of McMahons Point (TPMP) Central McMahons Point

About the series

In the Tiny Parks of McMahons Point series you will visit, well, tiny parks in McMahons Point. The containers are not difficult to find or to access as we just want you to enjoy each visit and the wander amongst them. Hints are generous to avoid excessive search time and unnecessary scrabbling amongst vegetation.

There are five geocaches in this series with 16 waypoints. At many waypoints, find the answer to a question and use the answers to calculate the coordinates for the Final Mystery cache GCB20XC Final Tiny Parks of McMahons Point.

Parking on many streets in McMahons Point is unmetered for two hours but often challenging to find free spaces.

About this multi-cache

This multi-cache will bring you to three of the tiny parks in the central part of McMahons Point.

WP1: Nottingham Lane Garden

This is a beautiful, shady community garden maintained by residents under the North Sydney Council Streets Alive program. A lovely place to rest on a hot day and a secluded place to read a book or just sit and contemplate life.

D=Look closely and count the number of gates into the park from the neighbouring properties. (It' an even number)

WP2: East Crescent mini-park

When we set this cache, two men - not Council workers – were busily mowing and edging the lawns. Their wives, Horrie and Julie, were instrumental in getting North Sydney Council to turn this former part of the street into this gorgeous tiny park. Julie was a landscape architect and drew up the design. The neighbouring community maintains the park. Please sit and enjoy their work.

E=How many slats on the west-facing bench?

GZ: Mary French Reserve

Mary French was the daughter of the ‘Old Commodore’, Billy Blue, the colourful Jamaican-born convict who was known for many reasons including operating the ferry from the eponymous Blues Point around Sydney Harbour. Mary’s second husband was James French, the original grantee of the French’s Forest area. Mary was about 85 when she died in 1895

F=How old was Mary French when she died?

*** IMPORTANT CALCULATION: Y=D+E+F ***

*******************************************************************************

This geocache was part of GC Project: It's Raining Caches 2025.

The project's aim was to create a rain of new geocaches to fall from the sky across the state of NSW at 9am on 19th January 2025 - 1 week before Sydney Geoquest, the first Block Party in the Southern Hemisphere.

Many legendary hiders came together to generously contribute their finest geocaches to build excitement and connection amongst the community and for all finders to enjoy years after the event.

This geocache helped make it rain.
