On May 2nd, 2000, thanks to an executive order from President Bill Clinton, selective availability was turned off for the U.S. military's Global Positioning satellites. The very next day (exactly 25 years ago), Dave Ulmer hid the first “Great American GPS Stash Hunt” container in the woods and posted the coordinates to an internet group chat. This was the start of what we affectionately call Geocaching today.

I first learned of Geocaching through on online Jeep forum in June of 2005. I signed up for an account and borrowed a GPSr from my brother-in-law. I logged my first find on July 10, 2005...but enough about me.
This is our opportunity to get together to celebrate 25 years of geocaching. Bring your travel bugs to exchange or discover. I will bring donuts, feel free to bring something if you like, but no obligation! I will have a few 25 year celebration trackables to give away.
Let's meet at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Memorial Park on 3 May 2025 from 2-4 PM to celebrate the geo-versary and earn a souvenir!
The address is 1315 E Pikes Peak Ave. Parking is available near the Memorial.
Hope to see you there!
