National Sasquatch Awareness Day, also known as National Bigfoot Day, is observed on October 20th. This day is celebrated by Bigfoot believers to commemorate the filming of the iconic Patterson-Gimlin film on October 20, 1967 as seen below:
To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to look for Bigfoot in Bear River! I'll be hosting a Poker Run/Rally at locations of the new Adventure Lab around the city of Bear River to aid in the search.
Join us in Northern Utah to visit with your fellow cachers and Sasquatch Hunters!
Reasons You Might Want To Come:
- Snacks and water provided!
- Prizes for the Rally winners (and consolation prizes for the not-winners)
- Playground, baskeball hoops, volleyball court, and baseball diamonds in the same park (in case you want to bring muggles or less enthusiastic cachers) - I also have some little activities (crossword and word search) and coloring pages/crayons for kiddos.
- I will place a new Adventure lab in town (will earn you the Adventure Day souvenir) which will be your guide around town while searching for Bigfoot, and planning on a second lab as well.
- I'll place 10+ new geocaches in Bear River before the event to find as well while you're here (multi, traditional, mystery, earthcache)
- To visit the famed and exciting little town of Bear River
- The Smiley :-)
- And to talk to other awesome geocachers like yourself!
Reasons You Might Not Want To Come:
- It's the same date/time as your Grandma's 100th birthday party
- Gas gets to over $4 a gallon...
- You don't like fun and/or geocaching
**There is NOT a Maverick in Bear River so those with a Diet Coke addiction will need to load up ahead of time 
There is a small convenience store about a block from the event location (park) but I cannot deny or confirm the presence of Diet Coke.
Schedule of Events:
9:00-9:15 a.m. - Sign the event log, get instructions for Poker Run - I'll give you a color (red, yellow, green, or blue) - you'll grab the card envelope with that colored line on it at each Adventure Lab stop. You can complete the lab on your own or carpool!
9:15-10:15 a.m. - Poker Run - Sasquatch Search. Adventure Lab (Bigfoot Hunt: A Bear River Historical Tour!) will be turned on! At each of 5 stops for the Adventure Lab, after you answer the lab question, take a look around to spot Sasquatch. Find him, retrieve your correct colored card envelope, and bring all 5 UNOPENED envelopes back with you to the park pavilion by 10:15 a.m. The adventure Lab will be less than 5 miles roundtrip by car - you will be visiting different historical sites around town. 4 stops are within 3 blocks of the event location and 1 stop is 1.5 miles north (get the Virtual cache while you're at that one!)
By 10:15 a.m. - Reassemble at the park, and bring your Bigfoot cards to the Scoring Table. We will tally the results (who has the best and worst poker hand) and determine the Winners!
10:25-10:30 a.m. - Winners announced and prizes awarded, and group photo
10:30-11:30 a.m. - The DUP pioneer cabin on site will be specially opened during the event (from 10:30-11:30am) so you can go inside and see all the historical relics from the area, if you're interested.
During any portion of the event time you can also:
- Visit with other cachers
- Have snacks and water (provided)
- Find nearby caches
- Fill out a "Get to Know your Fellow Cacher Sheet" (just fun stuff like your favorite caches, current goals, etc.)
- I will also bring supplies to make your own paracord survivial bracelet!
- Take a selfie with Bigfoot backdrop
If you don't want to do the Poker Run portion, you're welcome to just come to the park at any point during the event! Also if you can't stay the whole time, it's totally fine to come and go as you please!
Will Attend logs will be very helpful so I can make sure to have enough stuff. See you next month!
