Geocache Description:

25-on-25: Spaghetti Wednesday at DelGrosso Amusement Park

On Wedensday, June 25, come celebrate 25 years of geocaching and the half-way point of the 25-for-25 series summer-long cache releases. And since Wednesday at Del Grosso is "Spaghetti Wednesday", you have the option of purchasing a delicious pasta dish to eat at the event (optional, provided nearby in pavilion 2, the cost of each meal is provided by each individual geocacher as desired).

Come and join us on the 25th of June for a 25-year celebration of Geocaching. Pavilion 16 is rented for the entire day, although the event times are set for 3:30pm through 6:30pm. If you are interested in any additional activities that you may enjoy during the day in the vicinity, check out the relevant webpages available from the event host facility, or feel free to message mrGreen317 by geo-messenger (via app or website).

25-for-25 Halfway Point

To celebrate the near-halfway-point of the 25-for-25 series of caches published throughout the summer (from early May to mid-August), mrGreen317 and littleEEE invite our geocaching friends to share in a weekly summer tradition that we have enjoyed for several summers, namely "Spaghetti Wednesday" at Del Grosso. We'll be set up in Pavilion 16 (labeled "Shed 16" on the building). Come to sign the log, chat, exchange trackables, talk about all things geocaching, and possibly win some prizes for geocaching trivia over 25 years of geocaching.

Possible Schedule

The schedule is subject to change, but this is a general idea of the flow of the event:

11:30 Noon - 3:30pm: The facility is open most of the day, so there may be things attendees want to check out prior to the event's official start time.

3:30pm: Event officially starts, come on over towards Pavilion 16.

4:00pm: First round of trivia games for prizes

4:30pm - 7:00pm: Spaghetti Wednesday Dinner is available at Pavilion 2 (if interested).

5:00pm: Second round of trivia games for prizes

6:00pm: (tentative) Third round of trivia games for prizes

6:30pm: Event officially ends, but feel free to stick around the area until 8:00pm

7:30pm: This is the "30 minute call" that the facility will be closing at 8:00pm. We'll likely be all packed up and moving out of the pavilion by this time.

Del Grosso Park information

The cost of any food or entertainments (as desired by attendees) is to be paid by each attendee (if interested). Note that no purchases are required to attend the event, and access to the park side and pavilion area is free (although access is over the foot bridge from the "free" part of the waterpark plaza by the main parking).

Getting to GZ

If you are not familiar with Del Grosso Amusement Park, the main parking lot (free parking) is on the water park side. If using the main parking area, see the waypoints on the cache page and navigate to the main entrance. There are ticket windows adjacent to the main entrance, but those are for buying ride/water park passes. You may walk directly in through the open front gate and up the ramp that goes up from across the gate and to the right. The ramp will take you over the water park and straight to the footbridge crossing East Pleasant Valley Blvd. Once on the other side, walk towards the back of the "ride side" of the park towards the event coordinates at the picnic grove.

Know Before You Go

Rain or shine! Since this event is scheduled for Spaghetti Wednesday, the pavilions will be open even if the park is not operating the rides due to inclement weather. In the case of last-minute severe weather concerns, pay attention to any announcements on the event page for any last-minute changes.

The event and access to the event are free. Parking is also free (but see note below). There are options for additional activities for event attendees if interested (but attendees must pay for any personal tickets and foods costs). Purchases are not required to attend the event (just show up at the event pavilion to join us during the event hours). Access to the park grounds, including the pavilion where the event is located, are not restricted by purchases of wristbands (only the water park is behind an admission gate).

The event will be held at Pavilion 16 which is reserved all day. Access to the park picnic grounds is free, and while food may be available throughout the park (for various prices, paid by individual attendees as desired), you are also welcome to bring any picnic lunches or snacks. Relevant park policy text: "Guests may bring personal food, beverages, and coolers into available Picnic Grove Areas, but the Park is not responsible for items left behind. Food Deliveries and Outside Catering Companies are not permitted."

Sorry, service animals are the only animals allowed on park property, so geo-dogs would not be able to attend this event.

Parking for the cache is at the park's main parking area (free parking), around the indicated waypoint (or as close as you are able to get in front of the main entrance on the water park side). There sometimes is space to park near the junction of River Road and East Pleasant Valley Blvd, but priority in this area may be to park staff, so only the main parking is included as a waypoint on the cache description. For visitors requiring pick-up/drop-off: The security gate near the picnic area will allow temporary pick-up and drop-off for guests that may have trouble walking longer walking distances. I also will have access to one parking pass near the pavilion if any attendee would be in need of it. (Please message me through the geo-app or geo-site to request the parking pass, first-come, first-served.)

There is a bit of a walk from available parking to the pavilion (through the park and over a foot bridge). This should not be an issue for most cachers, and it is all ramps the whole way, but if anyone does need pick-up/drop-off accommodations, see the parking note. The event terrain is listed at 2.0 to consider the possible walking.

While not required to log this event, I thought it would be fun to include the swimming attribute, because you "may" wish to do some swimming nearby at some point during the day.

The 25-for-25 Series:

While this event is not itself a 25-for-25 series cache, it is placed with the intention of celebrating both 25 years of geocaching and the ongoing release of the JAGA 25-for-25 series. The 25-for-25 Series is being placed as a collaboration of local geocachers in the Johnstown-Altoona Geocaching Association (JAGA) area and surrounding counties. We wanted to place a series of 25 geocaches to celebrate 25 years of geocaching. We hope you enjoy the various types of hides, all across JAGA-land: Micro, Small, Regular, Large; Traditionals, Multi-Caches, Letterbox-Hybrid, Wherigo, and those pesky Mysteries. Happy 25th Birthday, Geocaching!
