Geocache Description:


This cache is located in an area with views of the Lane Cove River and prticularly Fig Tree House.

Fig Tree house was named in 1836 by Mary Reiby a well known merchant who built two small cottages adjacent to a Port Jackson fig.

 She used Figtree farm with an orchard as a retreat from Sydney.

In 1848 Didier Joubert added a two storey stone wingmaking one house out of the two cottages.Figtree house is now the sole remaining building from the Figtree farm.

Figtree house remains as a landmark in the Hunters Hill area standing next the the Figtree bridge which replaced the ferry in 11905.
