Geocache Description:

A geocache hidden in a beautiful historic site down a neat sidetrack from the main Skyline walkway. Enjoy a special view as the sun bounces between the valley, warming you to the core. As you begin your search, feel free to take a moment to look back on the history of the site and imagine the farmhouse activities that took place over 165 years ago.

Site History

This particular cache is located at an acknowledged historical landmark in Wellington titled 'Henry Kilmister Farmhouse Site'. This site is one of two historic farmhouse sites along the Skyline walkway. The Farmhouses belonged to the Kilmister family who emigrated from the United Kingdom and arrived in Wellington upon the 'Lady Nugent' in March of 1841. Together, Henry Kilmister and his older brother John Kilmister, began Sky Farm, starting with holdings in the area that now forms Karori Cemetery. Unfortunately, the two farmhouses no longer stand, however, a red brick chimney still remains and can be viewed at the 'John Kilmister Farmhouse Site' roughly a 20-minute walk from the 'Henry Kilmister Farmhouse Site'. The brothers now rest in a family plot in Bolton Cemetery, Wellington.

The Journey

The track is accessible from the Skyline Walkway Parkvale access or the Skyline Walkway Crofton Downs access (other alternatives available). A charming 30min - 1hr walk to GZ covering rolling with lovely views in all directions.

The Cache + Safety

Please note that the possum traps nearby (bright yellow boxes attached to trees) are not a part of any geocache and should not be touched.

During your hunt be vigilant as there may be some stinging nettle plants amongst the long grass.

You are looking for a 200ml jar with black tape containing a log, pencil and some tradables. Please take care when retrieving this cache. Please screw the lid tightly and return it to its correct spot and orientation after signage and of course no spoilers!. Use hint if necessary. Thank you.
