This geocache highlights the Waukesha Parade Memorial. The memorial honors the six people who lost their lives and those that were injured at the Waukesha Christmas parade in 2021 due to a senseless act of violence. This memorial also honors the first responders, health care workers, and bystanders whose bravery and quick response were crucial in providing aid and support on that tragic day. Through the Waukesha Strong Community Tile Project, every community member impacted was invited to participate and express themselves, leaving a lasting mark on the memorial. Hundreds of tiles were created by those participating, which are now installed on the west wall of the memorial.
At the center of the memorial, you’ll see six ribbons, woven together to form a large heart—each ribbon representing one of the precious lives lost. This design is not just a remembrance of those individuals, but a reminder that our lives are interconnected, woven into a shared heart that continues to beat as one. Each family who lost a loved one designed a plaque that tells the story of their loved one. And each night at 4:39 p.m., the memorial will turn blue for six minutes, one minute for each of the lives we lost. May it inspire all who visit to remember, reflect, and keep our shared heart strong.
