Staveley Fell
This GC is named after one of Wainwright's Outlying Fells. The summit, which should be the destination of this GC first or afterwards has no official name. The OS map leaves this summit blank and undeserving. It is the highest point in Chapel House Woods, but Wainwright gives it's name from the closest settlement. This summit has lovely views of Windermere and in the distant the mountains of the Lakes. But this small fell shouldn't be disregarded. Its quiet summit, hardly visited apart from by the mountain bikers who have made their own downhill track back down into the valley from its heights, gives a place of solitude and peace, quite the opposite to the busy tourist hotspot of Gummers How (another Outlying Fell) in clear view to the north.
The summit is rather bare, so the GC has been placed in the shadows of a big promient tree of which the co-ordinates are based on. If you follow the path from the fire track to the summit, it wont take you long to see the tree on the way up.
The GC is a medium sized plasitc tub. There is a log book and pencil and a few treasures to start it off.
There are a good number of GCs in Chapel House Woods and you can make a nice walk and hunt to get them all.
The GC is not hidden in or on the tree.
