Some could say that the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869 spelled the beginning of the end of "Wild West". The railroads made travel faster, cheaper, and safer than stagecoach or wagons. They allowed the transportation of farming machinery to the West, and produce to eastern markets. It was one of the first steps in taming the "Wild" out of the West.
