Bandini Canyon Park history part 4 of 4:
The entry gates were created through creative collaboration between community members and artist Michael Amescua. The park comprises 5 acres and cost $1.4M to refurbish in 2017. Before then, it was overgrown and tended to accumulate trash, furniture, and homeless. Principal Robert Fenton of Bandini Elementary School said the renewal "helps (students) to be proud of their community, to see that things are changing for the better,” he said. “This is a symbol of hope for our community.” Full story at this link: https://www.dailybreeze.com/2010/08/19/bandini-canyon-trail-park-unveiled-in-san-pedro/
This is the fourth in a series of four caches intended to bring people to the Bandini Canyon hiking trail. It's not the most picturesque hiking in the South Bay, but it's a nice short walk through some sururban green space. This cache is a bison tube. Please be sure to tuck this one back as far as it will go so it stays out of sight. It can be accessed from both inside and outside the park, so it is 24/7. Park hours are 5 am to 10:30 pm.
