This geocache takes you to a special piece of community history. In 1995, as part of a summer employment program for young people, art teacher Cindy Vidala collaborated with eight local youths to create a stunning mural of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The mural, painted to deter graffiti, quickly became a cherished symbol of community pride and faith.
Unfortunately, in 2005, the mural was vandalized, with burn marks marring the Virgin’s face and upper torso. Thanks to the dedication of local muralist Lynn Harder and Cynthia Vidala, the mural was lovingly restored and stands today as a testament to the resilience and pride of this community.
You’ll notice there is an alter filled with lighted candles and flowers left by locals who view this mural as a sacred altar and a reminder of their homeland.
Please respect the space. There is no need to disturb the alter to find the cache.
Congrats to lindyfind and KCSearher for first to find.
Happy caching!
