A „HAJRÁ FUTÁS Egyesület és a Hajdú Rendészeti Sportegyesület 2018. szeptember 28-án, Debrecenben a Nagyerdőn egy kopjafát állított, amelyre elhelyezte három egykori kiváló atléta emléktábláját.

Az eseményen megjelentek az egykori kiváló atléták hozzátartozói, egykori versenyzőtársak, Kemecse Város polgármestere.
Kovács Gyula mondta egyszer:
„Egy sprinternek, ami hosszabb, mint 200 m, az mind kínzás, de ebben a csodálatos Nagyerdőben minden más, testileg, lelkileg gyógyít, itt elfelejt az ember mindent."
Igen. Egy atléta, különösen egy futó atléta számára kivételes kincs a Nagyerdő. Az volt egykor, az ma is, és reméljük, az maradhat a jövőben is.
Az volt a három kiváló atléta számára is.
Kovács Gyula Debrecenben született. Nagyszerű sprinter volt. Hamar megmutatkozott tehetsége a rövidtávhoz. Évről évre javultak eredményei. Bár az atlétika döntően egyéni sportág, de igazi csapatember volt. Országos bajnok lett a 4 x 200 m-es váltóban. Országos csúcsot ért el a 4 x 100 m-es és a 4 x 200 m-es váltóban. Egyéni legjobb eredménye 100 m-en: 10,7, 200 m-en: 22,14 volt.
Versenyzői pályafutása után edző lett, versenyeket szervezett. Tanítványai szerették, tisztelték, felnéztek rá. Szép sikereket ért el velük. Mint sportszervező megalapította a Nemzetközi Gyermek Atlétika Versenyt.
Kövesdi István nagyszerű gátfutó Ózdon született. Országos bajnokságot nyert a 400 m-es gátfutásban és a 4x200 m-es váltóban. Országos csúcsot ért el a 4 x 200 m-es váltóban. Egyéni legjobb eredménye a 400 m-es gátfutásban 51,27 volt.
Egy határozott emberi jellem, aki az elvégzett munkába hitt. Ezt igyekezett átadni tanítványainak. Az igazáért mindig határozottan kiállt. Tanítványaiért mindent megtett, ezért szerették, tisztelték.
A kövesdi istállóban, ahogy nevezték tanítványai, nagyon jó közösségi szellem uralkodott. Szép eredményeket értek el versenyzői.
Szánthó Tamás az edzéskirály Berettyóújfaluban született.
Országos bajnok volt három alkalommal 4x800 m-es és a 4x1500 m-es váltóban, országos csúcsot ért el fedett pályán 1500 m-en, továbbá a 4 x 800 m-es és a 4 x 1500 m-es váltóban. Fedett pályás Európa-bajnokságon 1978-ban Milánóban, döntős volt 1500 m-en. A középdöntőben elért eredményével, a 3:40,72-el, akkor a világranglistán, 10. helyezett volt, és ez az eredmény 10 évig volt országos csúcs.
Nem túlzás, olyan edzéseredményeket produkált, amelyek alapján az elért eredményeinél még többre volt hivatott. Mindez párosult egy igaz, őszinte jószándékú emberi jellemmel. Szerették, tisztelték barátai, versenyzőtársai.
Ők hárman nem csak nagyszerű atléták, de kiváló emberek is voltak. Méltán lehet rájuk büszke egykori egyesületük a DMTE épp úgy, mint Debrecen városa.
A kopjafát a hetvenes évek két válogatott atlétája, Lipcsey Irén és Szabó Ildikó leplezte le, majd a megemlékezők nevében Lipcsey Irén helyezte el a tisztelet koszorúját. Az eseményen jelen levők
Az ünnepségen a már felsoroltakkal együtt megjelentek olyan régebbi nagyszerű versenyzők, mint Csillag Balázs, Giczei Csaba, Kulcsár Magdolna, Orosházi Csaba.
2019. március 1. napján a Kopjafán el lett helyezve Szűcs Kornélia emléktáblája is.
Szűcs Kornélia Országos bajnokságot nyert három alkalommal a 4x800 m-es váltóban. Igazi csapatember volt. Aktív versenyzői pályafutása után edzőként tevékenykedett. Tanítványai szerették, tisztelték.

On 28 September 2018, the "HAJRÁ FUTÁS Association and the Hajdú Law Enforcement Sports Association erected a headstone in the Great Forest of Debrecen, on which they placed the memorial plaques of three former outstanding athletes.

The event was attended by the relatives of the former outstanding athletes, former competitors and the Mayor of Kemecse.
Gyula Kovács once said:
"For a sprinter, anything longer than 200 m is torture, but in this wonderful forest everything is different, it heals you physically and mentally, here you forget everything."
Yes. For an athlete, especially a running athlete, the Great Forest is an exceptional treasure. It once was, it still is, and we hope it can remain so in the future.
It was for the three outstanding athletes.
Kovács Gyula was born in Debrecen. He was a great sprinter. His talent for the short distance soon became apparent. His results improved year by year. Although athletics is essentially an individual sport, he was a real team player. He became national champion in the 4 x 200 m relay. He achieved national records in the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m relays. His individual best was 10.7 in the 100 m and 22.14 in the 200 m.
After his racing career, he became a coach and organised competitions. He was loved, respected and looked up to by his students. He achieved great success with them. As a sports organiser, he founded the International Children's Athletics Competition.
István Kövesdi, a great hurdler, was born in Ózd. He won national championships in the 400 m hurdles and the 4x200 m relay. He achieved a national record in the 4x200 m relay. His individual best in the 400 m hurdles was 51.27.
A strong human character who believed in the work he was doing. He tried to pass this on to his students. He always stood firmly for what was right. He did everything for his students, and for that he was loved and respected.
There was a very good community spirit in the stable at Stonebridge, as his pupils called it. Good results were achieved by his riders.
Tamás Szánthó, the training king, was born in Berettyóújfalu.
He was national champion three times in the 4x800 m and 4x1500 m relay, achieved a national indoor record in the 1500 m, and in the 4x800 m and 4x1500 m relays. At the 1978 European Indoor Championships in Milan, he was a finalist in the 1500 m. His semi-final result of 3:40.72, then ranked 10th in the world, was a national record for 10 years.
No exaggeration, he produced training results that showed he was destined for even more than what he had achieved. All this was coupled with a genuine, sincere goodwill as a human being. He was loved and respected by his friends and fellow competitors.
The three of them were not only great athletes, but also great men. Their former association, DMTE, and the city of Debrecen can be justly proud of them.
The headstone was unveiled by Irén Lipcsey and Ildikó Szabó, two national team athletes of the 1970s, and then Irén Lipcsey laid a wreath of respect on behalf of the commemorators. Those present at the event
The ceremony was attended by some of the great athletes from the past, such as Balázs Csillag, Csaba Giczei, Magdolna Kulcsár and Csaba Orosházi.
On 1 March 2019, we also placed a memorial plaque to Kornélia Szűcs on the Kopjafa.
Kornélia Szűcs won the National Championships three times in the 4x800 m relay. She was a true team player. After her active racing career she worked as a coach. He was loved and respected by his students.
