Geocache Description:

This monument recognises the role of the Australian soldiers and thier horses who trained nearby during Wold War I. They played a key role in the victory at Beersheba, near what is now called Gaza on 31 October 1917.With this victory, it led to the beginning of the end to the Ottoman Empire.

At his time, Menagle would have been on the rural fringe of Sydney, well away from the pleasures of city life. The gathering of horses to fiight in the batttles of World War I was a logistical challenge and sadly, they were not brought back to Australia at the conclusion of the war.

This geocache was part of GC Project: It's Raining Caches 2025.

The project's aim was to create a rain of new geocaches to fall from the sky across the state of NSW at 9am on 19th January 2025 - 1 week before Sydney Geoquest, the first Block Party in the Southern Hemisphere

Many legendary hiders came together to generously contribute their finest geocaches to build excitement and connection amongst the community and for all finders to enjoy years after the event.

This geocache helped make it rain
