Welcome to Cryptid Quest! A Geo Art for those participating in GeoWoodstock XXI that are looking for a more relaxed and accessible caching experience while in the Mountain State. Appalachia has a rich culture and mythos surrounding the area, no more exemplified by the myriad of "Cryptids" that are rumored to be found nearby. Cryptids are an elusive class of creatures with sometimes supernatural abilities or appearances that, despite best efforts, haven't been proven to exist. Join me as we explore some of the Cryptids that may or may not inhabit the hills of Appalachia!

Bigfoot
Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is one of North America’s most famous cryptids. Reports of this large, ape-like creature date back to Native American legends, which describe it as a protector of the forest. Typically described as a bipedal figure standing 8–10 feet tall, covered in dark hair, and with an earthy odor, Bigfoot is often accompanied by tales of mysterious footprints and guttural howls. Despite the lack of concrete evidence, Bigfoot continues to fascinate and inspire debates, documentaries, and amateur investigations.
Bigfoot might be the most famous cryptid, but not the one I'm looking for! We're after the best of the best.
