I'm johnpoontf, a geocacher deeply connected to the vibrant neighborhood of Tai Kok Tsui, where my caching journey began. As I approach the milestone of 1,000 caches, I’m thrilled to introduce some exciting updates to the Tai Kok Tsui series. Among these adaptations, I’m delighted to unveil a new addition: the first-ever letterbox cache in this area!

This revitalized harborside gem, transformed from the historic Coast Pier, marks one of the dynamic "borders" between Tai Kok Tsui and Sham Shui Po. Part of a larger waterfront landscape upgrade on the west side of the Kowloon Peninsula, the area reimagines its historical role as an active cargo offloading zone. The centerpiece is the pier canopy, an architectural marvel inspired by the informal aggregation of boats once docked along the waterfront. Its roof, divided into five shifting strips, creates spatial diversity while enhancing functionality. Voids in the structure allow for passive cooling and cross-ventilation, while sunlight streaming through during the day and glowing gaps at night give the canopy a striking interplay of light and shadow, offering a floating profile above the water.
Spanning over a hectare, the promenade features landscaped areas, open lawns, and inclusive pet-friendly zones, providing a welcoming retreat for all visitors. The revitalized pier and promenade connect Tai Kok Tsui with breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour, sunsets over West Kowloon and Stonecutters Island, and a refreshing nod to its maritime history. Easily accessible from Nam Cheong MTR Station, this tranquil harborside spot is perfect for leisurely strolls, photography, or simply enjoying the natural beauty and thoughtful design of this reimagined waterfront.
