Have you ever taken a look at the Geocaching gameboard, and noticed how saturated the world seems to be with geocaches? Why, just within 150 miles of my Carmichael home there are more than 53,000 geocaches waiting to be found. By far the most common type of cache out there is the Traditional cache, with over 80% of all caches hidden. The two next most-common hide types are Mystery and Multicache. Combined, these three cache types make up about 96% of all caches hidden. No wonder these types account for most of the cache types geocachers find.
But, what about those other cache types -- the Letterbox Hybrids, Earthcaches, Virtuals, Wherigos, Webcams, and Events of all kinds? Surely they deserve attention, too?
And that's your Challenge -- To fill your calendar with these less common cache types. No, the "Big Three" won't count for this challenge. Instead, your challenge is to find at least one other type of icon on each* calendar date. There are more than 1,900 such caches within 150 miles of this cache, and more than 3,800 of them in California.
*Okay, geocaching challenge rules only allow 365 days, but that's close enough.
- Any one icon other than a Traditional, Mystery, or Multicache counts.
- Examples of qualifying icons include Earthcache, Virtual, Wherigo, A.P.E., Webcam, Events, Letterboxes, and more!
- Ignore the year found! As long as you found a qualifying icon on January 1 of any year, that fills that date on the calendar.
