Debrecen - Lakott területre tévedt egy medve – aggodalomra azonban semmi ok: több mint 30 éve egy helyben áll. A Sas utcát díszítő Mackós-kutat a debreceni születésű Medgyessy Ferenc tervezte.
Hátulról megközelítve a turisták általában csak tippelnek, hogy vajon milyen állat fog velük farkasszemet nézni a belváros közepén. Majd hirtelen egy kedves mackó ábrázatát pillanthatják meg, aki a magasból néz lefelé.
A nagytermetű állat szobrát Medgyessy Ferenc tervezte és eredetileg nem is Debrecenbe.
Budapestre adott be egy díszkút pályázatra többek között kettő tervet is. Ennek a mackós kútnak a tervét 1926-ban készítette el, de ezt a díszkút pályázatot 1954-ben írta ki a főváros és a két pályázat közül ez a mackós kút aratta a nagyobb sikert, úgyhogy ezt valósították meg – mondta Erdei Nóra, az Explore Debrecen idegenvezetője.
Így történt meg az, hogy a forradalom és szabadságharc évében láthatták először a fővárosiak. 1956-ban Budapesten a II. kerület főutcáján állították fel, majd később, 1966-ban a mai helyére, a Nagy Imre térre került át.
A debreceni macinak tehát van egy nagy testvére a fővárosban, a Sas utcát díszítő medveszobor tulajdonképpen egy másodpéldány.
Medgyessy Ferenc szobrai elsősorban a hortobágyi legelők állatait idézik meg, megihlették a bikák és a komondorok is. Persze felmerül a kérdés, hogy miért szeretett volna egy medvét is életre kelteni.
Gyerekkorában járt cirkuszban, úgyhogy elképzelhető, hogy ott találkozott medvével. Az biztos, hogy oroszlánnal találkozott, mert a Református Kollégium diákjaként az évfolyamtársának, Móricz Zsigmondnak a földbe rajzolt egy oroszlánt, hogy megmutassa, milyen jó rajzkészséggel rendelkezik. Hogy az egzotikus állatokhoz miért van a vonzódása, azt pontosan nem tudom, de ez egy nagyon kedves kis anekdota róla – mesélte Erdei Nóra.
A világhírű szobrász számos alkotást hagyományozott az utókorra, nem is gondolnánk, hányszor botlunk bele egy-egy remekművébe.
Talán ő az egyetlen olyan szobrászművész, akinek egy adott városban ennyi köztéri szobra található, mint itt Debrecenben. A város büszke a szülöttjére, és Medgyessy Ferenc is nagyon büszke volt a debreceni gyökereire.
Nem véletlen, hogy nagyon sok alkotása azt a világot tükrözi, azt a paraszti tenyeres-talpas női ideált, amit a szobraiban megalkotott – hallhattuk a szakembert.
A szobrászművész munkássága előtt a róla elnevezett Emlékmúzeumban tisztelegnek. Medgyessy Ferenc hagyatékából 1982-ben nyílt meg az első állandó kiállítás. A Péterfia utcán található épület nincs messze az egykori szülőházától.
A Mackós-kutat a sétáló utcán találod a mélygarázs körüli részen.

Debrecen - A bear has wandered into a residential area - but there is no cause for concern: it has been standing still for more than 30 years. The Mackós well, which adorns Sas Street, was designed by Debrecen-born Ferenc Medgyessy.
Approaching from the back, tourists are usually guessing what kind of animal will be staring them in the face in the middle of the city centre. Suddenly, they catch a glimpse of a cute teddy bear looking down from above.
The statue of the large animal was designed by Ferenc Medgyessy and was not originally for Debrecen.
He submitted two designs, among others, for an ornamental fountain competition in Budapest. He designed this fountain with a teddy bear in 1926, but the capital city announced the competition for this fountain in 1954 and of the two competitions, this fountain with a teddy bear was the more successful, so this one was realized," said Nóra Erdei, Explore Debrecen's tour guide.
That's how it happened that in the year of the Revolution and War of Independence, the people of the capital could see it for the first time. In 1956, it was erected in the main street of Budapest's 2nd district, and later, in 1966, it was moved to its current location on Imre Nagy Square.
So the bear in Debrecen has a big brother in the capital, and the bear statue on Sas Street is actually a second example.
Ferenc Medgyessy's sculptures are primarily reminiscent of the animals of the Hortobágy pastures, but he was also inspired by bulls and komondors. Of course, one wonders why he would have wanted to bring a bear to life.
He visited circuses as a child, so it is possible that he met a bear there. He certainly did meet a lion, because as a student at the Reformed College he drew a lion in the ground for his classmate Zsigmond Móricz to show how good his drawing skills were. Why he is attracted to exotic animals, I don't know exactly, but it's a very nice little anecdote about him," said Nóra Erdei.
The world-famous sculptor has left a legacy of works, and you'd be amazed how many times you stumble across one of his masterpieces.
He is perhaps the only sculptor to have as many public sculptures in one city as he has here in Debrecen. The city is proud of its native, and Ferenc Medgyessy was very proud of his Debrecen roots.
It's no coincidence that many of his sculptures reflect the world, the peasant ideal of the woman with her palms in her hands, which he created in his sculptures," the expert said.
The sculptor's work is honoured in the Memorial Museum named after him. The first permanent exhibition of Ferenc Medgyessy's legacy opened in 1982. The building on Péterfia Street is not far from the house where he was born.
