Welcome to Cryptid Quest! A Geo Art for those participating in GeoWoodstock XXI that are looking for a more relaxed and accessible caching experience while in the Mountain State. Appalachia has a rich culture and mythos surrounding the area, no more exemplified by the myriad of "Cryptids" that are rumored to be found nearby. Cryptids are an elusive class of creatures with sometimes supernatural abilities or appearances that, despite best efforts, haven't been proven to exist. Join me as we explore some of the Cryptids that may or may not inhabit the hills of Appalachia!

Indrid Cold
Indrid Cold, better known as the Smiling Man, is an enigmatic figure linked to UFO sightings and psychic powers. His story began in 1966 when Woodrow Derenberger, a salesman from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, claimed to have encountered a tall, human-like figure with a fixed, unnerving smile. Cold is described as impeccably dressed, with dark hair and strikingly large eyes. He communicated telepathically, identifying himself as Indrid Cold from the planet Lanulos, part of a peaceful intergalactic civilization. The encounter coincided with the infamous Mothman sightings in the area, deepening the mystery. While skeptics dismiss Cold as a fabrication, his story has become a staple of extraterrestrial lore, inspiring countless debates, books, and documentaries.
But enough about Indrid, I'm on a quest for the best Crypid: Mothman. After hearing he was spotted in Morgantown recently, I started my journey to find him myself! After weeks of searching, I finally spotted him earlier! All I could get were some blurry photos, but maybe with your help we can track him down? Get after him, here's the photo so you can go there too! Before we get going, maybe we should get some energy, what do you say? It always pays to be prepared!
