Welcome to Cryptid Quest! A Geo Art for those participating in GeoWoodstock XXI that are looking for a more relaxed and accessible caching experience while in the Mountain State. Appalachia has a rich culture and mythos surrounding the area, no more exemplified by the myriad of "Cryptids" that are rumored to be found nearby. Cryptids are an elusive class of creatures with sometimes supernatural abilities or appearances that, despite best efforts, haven't been proven to exist. Join me as we explore some of the Cryptids that may or may not inhabit the hills of Appalachia!
Loveland Frog
The Loveland Frogman, a cryptid from Loveland, Ohio, is described as a humanoid amphibian standing 3–4 feet tall. First sighted in the 1950s and later in the 1970s, it is said to have leathery skin, webbed hands and feet, and glowing eyes. According to one of the most famous accounts, the Frogman was seen holding a wand-like device that emitted sparks, leading some to speculate it could be an alien or magical being. The Loveland Frogman has become a beloved local legend, celebrated for its uniqueness and the mystery surrounding its origins. While skeptics attribute the sightings to misidentified animals like frogs or lizards, the cryptid remains a source of fascination and pride for the community.
They say Mothman showing up is an omen, almost like disaster follows him... I hope he gets out of these commercial areas soon.
