Welcome to the last (topmost) tramline of the old Howth Head tramway. It ran between Sutton railway station and Howth railway station from 1901–1959, operated by the Great Northern Railway (Ireland), replacing an earlier horse-bus service from 1867. Today, sections of the tramline form part of 4 of the 5 Howth walking loops.
Being the highest tramline — and closest to potential ice-cream stops — this one’s our mini-cachers’ favourite 🍦 A short stroll uphill brings you to the summit car park and sweeping views over Dublin Bay, the Baily Lighthouse, the Pigeon Houses, and the southside.
You’re treemendous for tackling our tramway trail 😉
