Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the published co-ordinates. A simple navigation task will take you to it.

Ravenheugh Crags is a triangulation pillar at a height of 256 metres. It sits on a small ridge made of Carboniferous sandstone. Although small it’s quite prominent and there is a line of sandstone crags on the north side facing the road.  On a clear day it has very good views. The pillar was built in 1951 at a cost of £9.14s.3d and became a third-order triangulation station 1953 when it’s exact height was levelled.

Finding the cache is a simple navigation task:

From the trig pillar navigate 44.9 metres on a bearing of 94.74 degrees.

Please note the cache is on the top. You do not need to go near the edge of the crag, or descend to the base of the crag. The top is surrounded by a single strand of barbed wire, but there are gaps and it’s very easy to duck under.

About Ye Ole Survey Monuments

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).

YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.

Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the YOSM Website

If anybody would like to expand the Ye Ole Survey Monuments Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.yosm.org.uk
so we can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
