Geocache Description:

Hello Everybody! This Cache was created for an Eagle Scout Project by Mason Schnurstein of BSA Troop 101 of Story City, Iowa.

The Story City Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that celebrates the traditions of our earliest residents through a variety of projects, exhibits, and museums. The Society's goals are to preserve, interpret, and acquire artifacts that promote the historical richness of the Story City community through the education of current and future generations.

This cache is located at the sites of both the Bartlett House and Carriage House Museums. The Bartlett House Museum is a Queen Anne style home built in 1903 for Henry Torkel Henryson and his family. H. T. was the son of Torkel Henryson, who brought early settlers from Norway to this area in 1855. The Story City Historical Society acquired this home in 1996, and it has been restored and furnished to reflect the period from 1903 to 1920. The Carriage House Museum was built to reflect a utility building of the early 1900s alongside the Bartlet House. Both these buildings are available to tour during open hours.

This is also the starting point of a nine-stop journey through the community to experience the rich ancestral history that still thrives today.

Please park in the lot on the West side of the Museum, through the alley connecting Grand and Lafayette streets. The building is open Wednesday through Friday, 12-5 p.m.; if they are out of the office or you'd like a guided tour, go to the website listed above or call 515-460-1749.

This cache is not difficult to grab at any time of year. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us if the logbook is full or if more pencils are needed.

Thanks! and Happy Hunting!
