Geocache Description:

Modern psychiatry no longer refers to people exhibiting a severely disordered state of mind as being INSANE.   That is considered a pejorative term.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has a number of more descriptive and precise diagnoses.  The DSM provides the following clinical criteria for diagnosing OCD:

1. Recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or impulses.

2. Repetitive behaviors that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.

3. The obsessions or compulsions are time-consuming (e.g., take more than 1 hour per day).

Red flag symptoms of Obsessive Caching Disorder may include:

  • A compulsion to be first to find and sign an empty piece of paper
  • An obsession with clearing your radius
  • Repetitively searching for, finding, and marking tiny pieces of paper in small containers, over and over and over again.
  • Feeling driven to do this every day of the year, often with esoteric rules and criterion.
  • Often going to great lengths to satisfy these compulsions such as blindly reaching deep into into unhygienic holes or stubbornly walking through fields of thorns and poisonous plants.

So…  Do you suffer from OCD?  Here is a little field test to either reassure you of your sanity or help you to better understand your problem.  Go to the posted coordinates.  There is an establishment that may help you.

  1. If you can successfully walk away - particularly if this is in your radius - then it is unlikely you have OCD.
  2. If you think you could benefit from the services provided, then go inside and make an appointment.
  3. If you are not quite ready to get help, then by all means look around, gather the needed information and find a geocache.
