Geocache Description:

Congratulations to Geo-Knot for FTF!!

Welcome to the second Geocaching Library Book of our series. We got this idea from another library book cache that we found in a free library and had the idea of putting books in a public libraries from Massachusetts to Maine. Thanks to the Rowley Public Library director for allowing us to place this book on the shelf. In order to find this book you will visit the posted coordinates in order to solve a math problem. Once you have solved the problem you will be able to determine the call number of the book that is directly next to our Library Book Cache that has no call number on it. The call number that you will solve for will be located in the Adult Non-fiction section. You can solve this mystery when the library is not open but you will need to visit the library when it is open to sign the log. You may not claim this cache without signing the log please. When arriving at the posted coordinates, you will be searching for a three digit number on a wall nearby (ABC). The last three digits of the posted North coordinates (DEF) and the last three digits of the posted West coordinates (XYZ) are the other numbers you will need.

DEF + XYZ - ABC - 556 = the call number

About this library:

Susan and Frederick Todd founded the Rowley Free Public Library in 1891.  These portraits of the Todds are circa 1870 are on view in the Local History Room. Our grounds feature a garden in honor of Ruth Lambert Cheney who bequeathed the land the library was built on in 1948.

Ruth Lambert Cheney was a Rowley benefactor and a founding member of the Rowley Historical Society. She is responsible for the English garden at the rear of the the Historical Society’s Platts-Bradstreet House, taken from a plan similar to one she saw in England. She also brought back English pottery from England to be used for used in the Rowley Powley Tea House to raise money for the restoration of the Historical Society’s 1677 Platts-Bradstreet House.

Ruth Lambert Cheney bequeathed the land for the Rowley Public Library in 1948. She willed that a formal garden be established to benefit the people so long as this library occupies these grounds.
