Welcome to Cryptid Quest! A Geo Art for those participating in GeoWoodstock XXI that are looking for a more relaxed and accessible caching experience while in the Mountain State. Appalachia has a rich culture and mythos surrounding the area, no more exemplified by the myriad of "Cryptids" that are rumored to be found nearby. Cryptids are an elusive class of creatures with sometimes supernatural abilities or appearances that, despite best efforts, haven't been proven to exist. Join me as we explore some of the Cryptids that may or may not inhabit the hills of Appalachia!

Silver Giant of Boone County
The Silver Giant is a cryptid steeped in UFO lore and is said to roam Boone County, West Virginia. Described as a towering humanoid, standing over 10 feet tall, the Silver Giant is characterized by its metallic, reflective body that shimmers under moonlight. Sightings of this enigmatic figure often coincide with reports of strange lights in the sky or other extraterrestrial phenomena, leading many to speculate that it is either an alien or an advanced robotic entity. Though accounts are rare, the Silver Giant has reportedly been seen near isolated roads or in dense forests. Boone County's rugged terrain and connection to Appalachian folklore make it a hotspot for mysterious tales, with the Silver Giant standing out as one of its most otherworldly figures.
We're pretty high up, huh? I wish I could fly too...
