After I found my first library cache years ago, I was determined to try and get a library cache of my own in New York City. Early on, it was not as easy I was expecting to make that happen. But eventually, I wound up working with some great staff members at the 46th Street Branch and on April 23, 2015, the first NYPL geocache was published:
NYPL: The Chrysler Building
Over the years the one NYPL geocache would develop into a series. Currently there are 14 active NYPL caches, which include 8 multi caches, 2 unknown caches, 2 letterboxes, 1 Wherigo and 1 EarthCache. As of the date of this event, the NYPL geocaches have been logged approximately 7,000 times!
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the series, I am hosting a meet-and-greet event in Room 7C on the 7th floor and the "secret" garden on the 7th floor of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library branch at 455 5th Ave from 1PM to 4PM. More details will be posted as I have them, so please check the page periodically between posting and the day of the event.
For anyone who has found 4, 8 or 12 geocaches in the series, there are bronze, silver and gold prizes available. And YES, attending this event will count towards your NYPL find total!
So come on down and sign the log, exchange some trackables or just say hello! And while you are here, check out the NYPL geocache at this location if you have not done so already!
