Geocache Description:

This one-step Multi cache will take you to Broulee Island to find a historic grave.  This is the grave of Elizabeth Malebar who died 27 June 1842, aged 45 years. She was the wife of Abraham who was a convicted sea captain on conditional pardon who made a living punting goods up and down the Moruya River and occasionally from the river mouth to Broulee. Elizabeth lived with her husband Abraham at Pomphrey Point (on the Moruya River). The grave of Mrs Elizabeth Maleber is located at the eastern end of the island and It consists of a sandstone headstone, a stone border and a sandstone footstone. The grave is surrounded by a chain wire and pipe fence constructed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service in 1972.
The headstone reads, “Sacred to the Memory, Elizabeth Maleber, died June 27 1842, aged 45 years, wife of Abraham Maleber”. While the headstone cites “Maleber”, it seems that the name was generally spelt “Malabar”. The grave has regional historic significance in being one of only a few known graves of this age in the South Coast region. It has local social significance to descendants of the Malabar family and members of the Broulee community.

This cache will take you to the grave via the island which is quite rough and unkept. It requires some bushwalking and navigational skills because getting lost on the island is easy. It took me at least 3 attempts criss crossing the island to find the elusive lonely grave. This island can feel abit creepy and scary, especially near the grave. Proper shoes and clothing are required. The best approach would be from south broulee carpark, walk to shark bay and then its not far from there. I've also marked a entrance point onto the island as it can be hard to actually get onto the island itself, with steep enscarpments surrounding the island.

Good luck. The physical cache is best accessed from the broulee lookout located near south Broulee beach. The grave is in a protected Nature reserve.

Once at the grave, On the smaller footstone within the grave there are 2 letters.

Lets say A=1 B=2 C=3 and so on. This will give the 2 letters a number each.

They will be called X and Y, X being the first letter and Y being the 2nd letter

The cache co-ordinates are as follows

S 35.51  (Y-8)(X-5)(X+4)   E 150.10 (X*Y-4)(X+2)

Good luck.
