Girl Scout Troop 1260 is a Junior Girl Scout Troop in Woodlake Virginia. We have a group of 7 fourth grade girls and 2 leaders. One of the Junior Girl Scout badges is a Geocaching badge. As a part of this badge, we have created a Geocache container for our girls to find. They will be learning about latitude and longitude, how to prepare for a geocaching adventure, what materials to bring geocaching, the basical rules they should follow while geocaching, how to find coordinates for an item, and how to navigate to an item. They will also be learning about geocaching terms (like "swag") and creating their own swag items that they can use as they find other geocaches on their own in the future.
Our geocache is in a small to medium sized clear cylinder container. There is an image on the lid of a Girl Scout Trefoil with a Smiley Face, and the words "Troop 1260 Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia". Inside the container is a small pencil, a log book, geocache instructions, and some swag items created by our girls. It is hidden just off the community path , under an evergreen tree, in the community where we have our Girl Scout meetings.
