This STEM cache employs basic to medium mathematics skills, requires some online research, likely a visit to Geocaching.Com, projecting a waypoint, and some intuitive thinking. While working on this cache I discovered an attribute that should likely appear on all or most of my STEM Series caches: “Not a Field Puzzle”. I.e. its easier to complete at home.
Input:
The posted coordinates will bring you to a lamppost. No, it is not a LPC cache. This is just a stable point that represents the future location of the new Jupiter Fire Station that will be very nearby.
I have a geocache located very very close to the corner of Toney Penna Drive and Mohican Boulevard. There has been an accident at the intersection near my geocache.
Output:
Using the given information what distance will an emergency-drone of the future travel from the firehouse to the the scene of the accident? When expressed in miles the answer has three significant digits (rounding may be required). There is an intuitive self check to the significant digits.
Rounded to the nearest minute how long will it take for the drone to fly from the fire station to the accident at 45mph?
Using the Output:
While standing at the Fire Station, the lamppost, project a waypoint:
Distance = The drone’s flight distance X 1000 - 323
Angle = 360 - minutes of flight
There is a intuitive link between the cache host and the cache theme.
With a little more online work the checker is applicable.
