The city once consisted of two districts: the city with the station in the west, and the church town in the east. The church town is the oldest part of the city. Today, the two parts of the city have grown together, but are divided by Skovvejen in the northern and southern parts. The town is also known for housing Jyderup State Prison, which has existed since 1988. Jyderup is also close to 5 forests and Skarresø, where on the island of Magleholm, a pair of eagles has had a nest for many years.
