The Leatherman was a mysterious 19th-century vagabond who wandered a regular 365-mile circuit through Connecticut and Westchester County, New York, roughly every 34 days. Clad entirely in handmade leather clothing, he traveled between towns, sleeping in caves and receiving food from locals. Little is known about his origins—some believed he was a Frenchman named Jules Bourglay, but this has been debunked. He never spoke more than a few words and maintained his routine for decades until his death in 1889. His true identity remains unknown, adding to the legend of this enigmatic traveler.
