Geocache Description:

Walk the Trail, Climb the Wall

(updated 11:30 AM, 5/17/25)

Guido may have devised the smallest LetterBox cache (stamp & ink pad included)

you have ever encountered!

So be sure to bring your LetterBoxing book!

At the given coordinates, observe what is on the sign

(specifically, count the number of images...

you might need this later)

and be cautious!!

Follow the trail toward the open space (you will be heading away from the street). You will encounter a set of stairs, and some information for a nearby Multi-cache. Proceed down the stairs, counting them. The result should be the square of a number under 10.

Proceed in the same direction, and when joining the main trail, veer to the right, then cross Humbug Creek using the bridge provided. A few more steps forward following the trail as it veers to the right. You should now be on a fairly straight section of the trail, and if you see Kyle, be sure to say "Hi!". Proceed until an opportunity presents itself to make a turn to the right over a bridge, a "fork" in the trail. Keep going (relatively) strait across two more bridges. After the second of those two bridges, make another right. You will observe a metal fence to your right and a retaining wall to your left. You are now in the "home stretch", as that retaining wall is the one mentioned in the title. To retrieve the Final, you, or a companion, must climb the retaining wall - the cache is NOT retrievable using a TOTT from the trail.

Just where down this intimidating wall could it be?

The key, so to speak, is related to the metal fence, and its levels.  Immediately after you make the turn, the metal fence goes through several graduated level changes - then, there are longer, more level portions before another level change - first, 10 1/2 fence sections, then 13 1/2 fence sections, and the last of those fence portions to observe has what I would call 3 2/3 sections...

(To confirm you have found the "3 2/3 sections" portion, check the area low, and behind the fence for a disruption of top level retaining wall bricks - there are about 4 bricks missing, then one all by itself.)

To identify the key, starting right after the "3 2/3 sections" portion, you will need to count a few more fence sections.

Remember counting the steps down earlier, just after stage one?

The number of steps was the square of a number under 10. Now you need the square root of the number of stairs you counted. Count out that many sections of fence, and at the end of that last counted-out section, look across the trail directly up the retaining wall.  You should see a post of a fence high up. That is where you will find the smallest LetterBox cache!

CAUTION!!!!

Take a few steps up to make sure you are capable of the climb -

if not, retreat for a better day with a companion who is able.

Suggest dealing with the cache and contents at ground level,

not trying to do it at the top of the wall.

So yes, you'll have to make two trips - first to grab the cache,

then another wall climb to Replace As Found.

ENJOY!!!
