Warrington West station was opened on the 16th December 2019 and is on the Liverpool to Manchester line, with 2 trains running an hour and are operated by Northern Trains and TransPennie Express.
The stations has been bulit on what was part of RAF Burtonwood, which was once the largest military air base in the UK. Building work for Burtonwood started in 1939 with a huge workforce clearing fields, filling ditches and pulling a few farm buildings down to make was for a two runway airfield. Five sites were built with a total of 13 hangars plus the HQ site, and BRD site.
Warrington Borough Council applied for funding from the Government's New Stations Fund the bid failed. However, the council secured part of the funding through other sources and a planning application was approved in 2015, and it was hoped that construction could begin in 2016, until Network Rail increased the estimated cost by £4 million. A fresh bid to the New Stations Fund was successful.
A extremely quick and simple multi, still watch out for muggles! BYOP!
