Geocache Description:

No more pencils no more books, No more teacher's dirty looks yeah!
Out for summer, Out till fall, We might not come back at all
School's out forever, School's out for summer, School's out with fever, School's out completely!

"Alice Cooper 1972"

The town of Yatina was established in 1874 as one of the first northern towns it only has the old hotel and a few other old buildings left around today. Yatina was planned on a grid, as Surveyor General Goyder always liked town plans with surrounding parklands and suburban lands beyond the parklands belt. The town was surveyed in 1874 and was planned to be one of the largest government towns outside of Adelaide with 189 acres of town blocks, over 1,400 acres of parklands and 388 acres of suburban lands. Little of it was ever developed and today it is very much a ghost town although it is within Goyder’s Line.

In 1879 the town had a school built for the area but like so many of these small community schools it was closed in 1952 the school is now a private residence. Other buildings in the area included a Catholic Church, St Virgilius built in 1876 and only closed around 1971 and a Primitive Methodist Church which was built in 1876 and closed in the mid-20th century. It was demolished in 2004. The public hall was built in 1922 as a memorial for fallen soldiers in World War One. It closed some years ago and is now a private residence.
