Prešernov gaj
kulturni in zgodovinski spomenik

Cultural and Historical Monument
Since 1798, this area served as the town cemetery, which ceased to be used for burials in the years leading up to World War II.
The former cemetery was transformed into a memorial park, where you can find the tombstone of poet Dr. France Prešeren, the tombstone of poet Simon Jenko, the Majdič family tomb with the marble relief Resurrection, as well as monuments dedicated to the Bazovica victims and Vladimir Gortan, who was executed in Pula. The latter is one of the earliest monuments in Europe commemorating the victims of fascist violence.
A walk through the park is especially pleasant on hot summer days, as the trees provide many cool and shaded spots.
