The Kenai Peninsula has been called “Alaska’s Playground”, and for good reason. It offers a wealth of beautiful places to see and fun things to do:
Whether you’re new to Alaska (a cheechako), or a long-time resident (a sourdough), the Kenai Peninsula has much to offer. There’s plenty of places for fishing, from salmon in the Kenai River to halibut in Homer or Seward. Hiking trails can be found almost everywhere. You can go rafting on one of the wild rivers in Hope or Cooper Landing; or go kayaking in Resurrection Bay. If you want to see whales and glaciers, take one of the tour boats in the Kenai Fjords National Park. Or you can just drive and enjoy the amazing scenery.
Of course, there are geocaches to be found pretty much anywhere you go. If you have the time, doing the Kenai Mountain / Turnagain Arm (KMTA) Geo Trail cache series is an excellent way to see the area and to learn about its history and culture (https://kmtacorridor.org/geotrail/).
But whatever you decide to do, this is where it all starts!
This geocache is not next to the sign; you’ll need to venture into the forest a little to get to it. Always be aware of what’s around you. Moose and bear and other wildlife can be found in this area, be careful and alert, and make lots of noise to let them know you’re there! Once you get through the initial line of alders the way should be relatively clear. You’ll be looking for a plastic ammo can. The cache may be available in the winter depending on snowfall amounts, but getting to GZ would probably be the biggest problem.
So be safe, have fun, and Good Luck!
