This is a
beautiful, short NATURE TRAIL, handicapped accessible, that I
discovered recently while on vacation from my home in
Charlotte, N.C. You might know this cache by another name, in
fact, there are at least two more names that are associated
with this local area.
The coordinates listed above are for a parking area near a Fast
Food restaurant. These coordinates are also within 100 feet of the
entrance to the NATURE TRAIL.
Entering the NATURE TRAIL, you should open the mail box on your
left. Sign the log and take one of the maps (FURNISHED BY THE PARKS
DEPT.) and proceed down the trail which is constructed of asphalt
at some places and crushed gravel at other places. THE MAP IS A
HELP AND NOT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY
There are digital markers located along the trail which will
describe (with your map) the most common plants and trees growing
in this maritime forest: Live Oak, Red Cedar, American Holly, Red
Mulberry, Yaupon, Poison Ivy, Yucca, Salt Meadow Hay, Cordgrass and
Pennywort to name just a few.
At/About marker eleven you should take a side trip of several
hundred feet to view the historic and aged dunes that were formed
when this area was known as Cheeseman's inlet. Before returning to
the main trail, see if the White Ibis and the Snowy Egret are still
maintaining their watch over the shallows there.
Continue on the trail until you reach N.34* 42.259, W.076*
45.093. On the backside are printed TWO words ONLY. E-mail me
through my profile (not by encrypted
note) these words to verify your visit.
Please stay on the trails and if you should see some trash,
please bag it and bring it out. Remember, Always walk with a
friend, do not disturb plants or wildlife and leave nothing behind
except your footprints and fond memories.
!!!!HAPPY TRAILS!!!
